Hello friends! Hope you’re having a great weekend! Today I have a few goodies from Alter Ego to show you. AE has whole line of products including nail polish, handmade soaps and bath salts, body creams, lip balms, scents for men and even a natural dog shampoo. The maker, Cynthia, is a total sweetheart! We are FB friends and in some pretty close knit groups together so when she asked me to try out one of her new body products I was super excited to say yes! She even sent along some of her polishes for me to try as well.
Alter Ego has recently revamped their nail enamel line, from new bottles and labels all the way down to the base of the polish. I love the holo labels and the vintage feel of the bottle shape. And the flat brushes in the full size bottles are really nice. Plus these bottles are much bigger than the average indie ~ full size bottles are 17ml and minis are 8.5ml!
Sugars Plums is my favorite of the colors she sent me, you know I adore all things berry colored! This is a stunning berry pink jelly with a soft holo finish and a flash of light pink shimmer. Shown here is just 2 coats with top coat.
Rocks the Plank (from their new Be A Pirate Collection) is a warm brown with a ton of scattered holo pigment that dries to a semi-matte finish. I don’t usually like browns but this one is quite flattering. Here is 3 coats with top coat.
Winter Sunset Watcher is a rust orange shade with colorful frost shimmer. She is quite sheer, probably meant to be worn layered over another color. Shown here is 5 coats alone and 2 coats over black. You can really see the the blues and pinks in the shimmer shine in the close-up.
Their new Double Agent face/body cream is made with babassu oil, kokum butter, unrefined undeodorized shea butter, vitamin E, polysorbate 80, optiphen, steric acid, hydrolized silk powder, and essential oils where applicable. The natural scent of shea butter is quite unique, described as woody, nutty and/or similar to fresh play clay.
I received the scent HoWood. I’m not very good at scent descriptions but I would call it slightly floral, with like woodsy nature undertones… I really like it! The creme is thick but fluffy if that makes sense. As soon as you start to rub it in it becomes a smooth oil. Cynthia warned me that natural shea can become a bit gritty during shipping if exposed to temperature changes but that it wouldn’t affect the usage. However mine arrived completely smooth, not gritty or grainy at all. I have been using it mostly as a hand/cuticle cream (my nails are loving it) and as a body creme on my elbows and feet (it’s helping a lot to get them back into sandal shape). I haven’t tried it on my face yet as my skin is extremely oily already and facial oils of any kind just make me nervous. But for someone who did like facial oils I imagine it would be pretty great there too.
I have a couple older Alter Egos and I must say this new formula is excellent. Those were nice but this new polish base she’s using has a great application they self level perfectly and go on smooth. I didn’t have a single issue with any of the three. I tried my hand at a Live Swatch Video with these so you can see the new formula in action if you’d like. Check it out and let me know what you think of my first swatch vid. Constructive criticism welcome. I want to start doing more of these and I know I have some kinks to work out.. getting my camera closer for one.
Alter Ego Body Care Products and Nail Enamels can be purchased at www.wisconsinsoap.com. The large 17ml bottles are $9 and the 8.5ml minis are just $4.50. The Double Agent Cream is $3 for a 1oz jar (the size I have) or $6 for a 2oz jar and is available in a few different scents to choose from.
