Hey there lovelies! Today’s Pinterest inspired nail design comes from.. a cake! Carrie Sellman over at The Cake Blog created an AMAZING retro floral wedding cake for Brides magazine. I love her style! I’ve had this pin on my Nailspiration board for over a year now. As soon as I saw it I knew it would be fun to do on my nails and this month’s Digit-al Dozen challenge gave me the perfect opportunity to try to recreate it with polish. 🙂
For my base color I used the beautiful shimmery white Zoya Genesis. Everything else was done with acrylic paints. At first I had the flowers painted on all 5 nails. But after reading the original artists blog post and seeing more photos of the cake design I decided I wanted to represent the small turquoise layer as well as the amazing intricately striped gray leaves. So I used the same mix of acrylic paint to do an all turquoise accent nail and attempted to create my own gray leaf out of thin lines. To finish up I added a coat of butterLONDON’s Matte TopCoat to make it look more like the icing.
These made me realize that I need to invest in an even smaller detail brush, my lines on the flowers should’ve been a lot better. But of course I still like how they look, I am pretty much obsessed with floral nail art!
What do you think?? Do they look like the cake?
