Hi there Friends! I have some long overdue swatches today. The OPI Hawaii Collection was released earlier this year, so I’m sure you’ve seen them. There are a few huge hits and one big miss in this collection. Well, I guess some people might like it.. you’ll have to tell me what you think. Let’s get right to it then shall we.
Lost My Bikini In Molokini is a bright violet purple. Perfect, creamy, smooth and easy to apply. Shown here in just 2 coats. Beautiful color!
Just Lanai-ing Around is a shimmery blush mauve. It was a surprise favorite for me. I just love the dusty neutral tone of it, great work-wear shade.. and how awesome would this be as a lipstick color! The silvery shimmer was a little hard to capture but is more noticeable in real life. Here is 2 easy coats.
That’s Hula-rious! is a pale mint green creme. I really love this shade! There is a very similar green in the Zoya spring collection as well, and I believe a similar shade from China Glaze also, I guess it’s just a popular color. This one was a little streaky, I needed 3 thin coats to smooth it out.
Hello Hawaii Ya? Is a dark plum creme. Nice smooth application. This is 2 coats.
Suzi Shops & Island Hops is a pretty baby pink. The formula was a little difficult, kinda chalky and goes on streaky. I needed 3 coats to get it even.
Go With The Lava Flow is another huge hit for me. I love this fiery red with golden pink glass fleck shimmer. It just has to be seen to believe. She’s a stunner! And a lovely formula here too, 3 thin coats for this swatch.
Aloha From OPI is a beautiful cherry red creme. Its color is more of a faded pink in real life, like the color shows at the bottom of the bottle in the photo, my camera made it look a lot brighter. The formula was excellent. 2 easy coats here.
Is Mai Tai Crooked? is a light creamsicle orange. It had that same streaky formula as the other pastel like shades in the collection but it wasn’t quite as bad. 3 coats here.
Do You Take Lei Away? is a light beige nice creamy neutral shade. To my surprise the formula was fantastc! This was 3 thin smooth coats but I’m sure 2 regular coats would have been great.
This Color’s Making Waves is a blue green frost with gold shimmery bits and a very slight duochrome effect. It’s on the sheer side, but was opaque in 2 heavy coats.
My Gecko Does Tricks is a bright green frost with fine gold shimmer. It wants to be a duochrome but it isn’t very shifty really.. it does have a slight orange flash though. This one is very sheer and needed 4 coats to reach opacity.
And the misfit of the collection.. Pineapples Have Peelings Too! Bleh! I think this was OPI’s “Fail” of the year. This hideous mess is 3 coats of gold/yellow metallic frost shimmer with mismatched multisized glitter. It was super thin and brushstrokey, went on lumpy, the glitters were difficult to get on the nail… was just an all around PITA.
What do you think? Would you wear this polish???
Aside from that last one I really loved this collection. Most of the cremes were just fabulous and I adore Lanai-ing Around and Lava Flow. There are some really great summer shades in here! Tell me, which is your favorite? And have you picked up any of these yet?
The OPI Hawaii Collection is available now at salons and spas nationwide including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, jcp Salons, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, ULTA and Sally’s Beauty Supply.
